“I AM” the Eternal Father…
The spirits who gave us The Urantia Book tell us that the I AM is both Eternal and Absolute. Furthermore, there are two parts to the I AM: the Qualified and the Unqualified Absolute.
The Unqualified Absolute “I AM”
The Eternal Isle of Paradise is an Absolute part of the I AM. It is a physical, static, unmoving, non-deity—it is an It, not a He. The givers of the Urantia papers refer to the physical isle by a number of names: Paradise, the Eternal Isle, The Paradise Source and Center, and the Unqualified Absolute. Paradise is Unqualified because it is physical mass without personality or mind, but it has purpose. It is the I AM force pattern of gravity control throughout the universe—the supreme pattern of reality. The Eternal Isle has no known beginning or end—it exists.
The Qualified Absolute “I AM”
The Qualified Absolute is God and thus a He, not an It. He is also known as the First Source and Center, First Person of Deity, and the Universal Father. Unlike the Unqualified Absolute, God is spirit in form, and he has personality and mind. Not a mind as we know it, but the power of all-knowing creative thought.
God is a “creator, controller, and upholder; universal love, eternal spirit, and infinite energy; potential of all potentials and source of all actuals; stability of all statics and dynamism of all change; source of pattern and Father of persons.” UB Paper 105:3
Looking at this from a human perspective, think of the Eternal Isle (Paradise) as the white of an egg, and the First Source and Center as the yolk. Together they are the original I AM, but they are also two separate yet intertwined entities with dual purpose—one is deity; the other is dynamic force.
To be clear, no beings or things would exist without the Eternal Father. The spiritual beings who gave us The Urantia Book strongly believe that the static Eternal Isle and the Universal Father are the original I AM from which sequentially emerged five additional Absolutes (which we will get into in future papers).
Collectively, all seven Absolutes are considered equivalent to infinity, but only the Eternal Isle and the First Source and Center are actually infinite. In other words, they are the primal I AM in all realms: from Paradise to the lowly mortals of time and space.
Nothing exists in the Master Universe that does not have a direct or indirect relationship to the I AM. Lowly mortals have two direct connections to the Eternal Father. It is from the Father that mortals receive a fragment of the Father and a personality. The Father Fragment also goes by the name of the Mystery Monitor or the Thought Adjuster, and the personality is a one of a kind archetype in the universe that is unique to each mortal.
We’ll delve into more detail about how this comes about when we get into the ascension journey. The next paper, on the Forces at Work, will focus on the Second Source and Center—the Eternal Son.
